UNIQUE IDEAS FOR DECORATING A LIVING ROOM WITH PLANTS

Plants are ideal for refreshing a living room and adding interesting color and texture. They are healthy accents to have around your home as well, producing oxygen and keeping the air clean. Just make sure that you maintain them well, cutting off all dead leaves, and not letting cut flowers rot in stale water. The kinds of plants you purchase will determine the level of maintenance needed.

There are several ways to decorate your living room with plants. Most of the ideas included here are suitable for any type of living room, and some of them have taken into account the layout and features of the room.

Use decorative plant pots. Don’t forget to dress up the pots when you’re decorating with plants. A brightly colored pot can light up plain green foliage. You may choose to have a series of unique pots in the room, or unite different kinds of plants by placing them in pots of similar color and material. Place them in a line on a windowsill or wall ledge, or group them as a coffee table centerpiece.

Coordinate colors. Think about selecting plants for your living room based on their colors. Floral bouquets can be found in nearly every color combination, so it is not difficult to find one that matches the color scheme of your living room. An arrangement of a few stems in a clear vase looks beautiful and elegant.

Group plants on a side or end table. Clear a side table by a seating area and arrange a few small plants of different species, height, and size. If the table is near a window that receives lots of sunlight, then all the better for your plants. You can include plants that have their own interesting character, like those which invite touch with their soft, furry leaves, or insect-eaters like the Venus flytrap.

Frame an outdoor scene. Plants don’t have to be indoors to be a pleasing part of your living room dйcor. If you have large windows or French doors facing part of your yard or garden, make the most of the view by framing the windows with a pair of sheer, light-colored curtains that are gathered at the sides.
Hang plants from ceiling. Hanging plants can look lovely in your living room by the window, perhaps strategically placed to block an unsightly view. You can find ceiling hooks at hardware stores, or if you don’t like the idea of drilling holes in your ceiling, look for tall plant stands. Boston ferns and trailing ivy are some types that do well indoors and look great to boot.

Use plants as room dividers. If you have a large living room and wish to divide the space into separate areas, consider using a neat row of plants to do the job. They can be placed on a console table along the back of a couch. A few trays of straight bamboo produce a different look from a couple of vases of wiry branches.
