Budgeting For Home Redecorating Budgeting to most people is considered almost as bad as going in to get a tooth pulled by the dentist. In redecorating or even in decorating a new home it is important to work within a budget or you will quickly find that you have overspent on one part of the project and can't afford the items that you want to finish the room or home. By setting up a budget that is reasonable and takes into consideration the realistic amount you can spend, you will be sure to get the basics in the room to start on your redecoration project. The first stage of budgeting for a home redecoration or remodeling project is to take inventory of your income, monthly expenses and your current debt levels. In most cases it is not cost efficient to borrow money to complete a home redecoration project unless you can use a home equity line of credit loan and have very little current debt. This type of loan will only charge you interest on the amount of money you actual withdraw from the line of credit, plus you can pay it back as quickly as possible without any penalty or fees. Using a high interest credit card for home remodeling or renovations is not a smart financial move unless you can pay the outstanding balance every month and avoid paying interest. Once you know what your income and expenses are you can then start to plan how much money you can use for each part of the project. Don't guess at the prices of materials and supplies, a quick online search can give you concrete and accurate amounts in each category. When planning your budget put the most money in the structural changes that need to occur as well as the essential parts of the project, then the additional funds into the extras and accent items. Keep in mind that some of the furniture and materials you already have can be recovered, painted or even used as they are until you are able to comfortably afford just want you want. Try to work within ranges rather than absolute numbers; this will add some flexibility into the budget. Depending on how much you're willing to do on your own and how willing you are to shop around for materials you can reduce a redecorating budget substantially. While it is difficult to install carpet and other floorings by yourself if you haven't done it before, painting and wallpapering is typically something that you can do on your own. You may also want to enlist the help of family and friends to do some of the painting or basic work to help keep costs down. Shopping around on the internet or at local building supply discount stores can really help in finding high quality items at low prices. Look for surplus stores that handle small lots left over from home construction projects for tiles, flooring, wallpaper and even fixtures for your home. Habitat for Humanity operates one such surplus store that also provides benefits back into the community. Following a budget when remodeling or redecorating will ensure that your project goes smoothly and is completed within your price limitations. If you can't afford the remodeling, start a savings account and work towards your financial goal to start the project, you will surprised at how quickly you can save once you have a budget and plan. Planting A Beautiful Rose Garden: Success vs. Failure Roses are arguably the most well-known flower around, and have been featured in paintings, sculptures, movies, television, and other mediums for many years. It's not surprising that people would want to have their very own rose garden displayed on their property for them to enjoy and the world to see. Roses can be very aesthetically pleasing to the eye and are known as one of the best smelling flowers in the world. Roses are symbols of love and will often times be given to a lover to show that the person giving them the rose cherishes them and loves them deeply. Testing the soil that you're going to be planting your rose garden on should be your top priority before planting the roses. I can't tell you have many stories I've heard of people who planted their roses in a particular patch of soil and had them die because the soil wasn't capable of producing the roses. Garden shops and home and gardening departments in big chain stores like Wal-Mart and Lowe's will have soil testers for sell. Once you purchase one, test the soil's pH level and if it's between 5.6 and 6.6, you're good to go . The next thing you need to do is make sure that the rose garden will be in a place that has a lot of sunlight. Roses love to bask in sunlight and will eat it up like candy. Roses like sunlight so much that they need at least 6 hours of it per day. Obviously, planting your rose garden in a place overshadowed by trees is a bad idea because the amount of sunlight they need will simply not get to them. If you can't tell which areas outside your home are the best for sunlight, wake up right before sunrise, go out, and when the sun comes up see which areas around your home are filled with sunlight first. Watering is the next step in ensuring you have a successful rose garden. If you water your rose garden once or twice a week, this will be enough to help the root system of the rose bush get established. Make sure that the soil is well drained too, because too much moisture in the soil will result in your rose garden getting too much and could potentially kill your roses. To sum up, roses are a thing of beauty and should be treated as such. Planting white roses and red roses together could be another thing you want to try as this is aesthetically pleasing as well (the colors really go great together). All in all, it just takes a bit of common sense to ensure your rose garden will be rich and healthy. Test the soil before planting, make sure the area has plenty of sunlight, and keep the water intake at a safe level, and before you know it you'll have a beautiful rose garden that your neighbors and friends will be jealous of. Easy Ways to Make a Small Kitchen Look Larger
Bigger is Better!
Whether you want to make your small kitchen look larger to impress potential buyers, or whether you plan on staying in your home indefinitely, it is possible to make your small kitchen look larger and much more impressive. With a little creativity, ingenuity, and a few practical decorating tips, your kitchen will look larger without extensive rearranging or remodeling. In a single day you can turn your small kitchen into a room that looks much larger and more workable, and you can greatly increase the amount of storage space. Begin with Color Dark colors and bold patterns in a kitchen will make it appear smaller than it already is. If your small kitchen is dark, brighten the walls with a coat of high-quality primer and durable satin latex paint. Choose a crisp clean shade to make the room appear open and bright. Painting will completely transform the entire room, and if your kitchen was drab and dark, you will be amazed by how light and airy it feels with a fresh new look. Get Rid of the Clutter Countertops overloaded with small appliances, spices, utensils, papers, and other odds and ends make it appear cluttered and inadequate. Buy a wall-mounted rack to store spices, and invest in a rotating holder for utensils. Designate one area for storing bills, and throw away or file the rest to avoid unnecessary paper clutter. Get rid of small appliances that aren’t used, and find an alternate place to store those that are rarely used. Simply clearing off countertops and getting rid of the clutter makes a kitchen look larger and much more ample. Best of all, you will have much more space for food preparation and other kitchen activities. Clean Those Cabinets If you do not know where to store appliances that are rarely used, thoroughly clean out cabinetry. This does not mean simply removing items, wiping down shelves, and putting the same items back. Consider how often the stored items are used. If a particular item has not been used in the past year or two, more than likely it really is not needed. Donate unwanted items to a worthy cause or have an outdoor sale. Getting rid of items that are not necessary provides more room for items that are. Cabinets that are not packed full will look much roomier and larger than ever before. Let the Light Shine In Lighter paint will help make a small kitchen look larger, but if the kitchen is shrouded in darkness it will still look small. Consider new window treatments, and take advantage of natural light. Open the shades and blinds, and let the light shine in. If natural light is not sufficient, invest in new kitchen lighting. The amount of light in a small kitchen can make all of the difference in the world, and along with the aforementioned ways to make a small kitchen look larger, you can transform your kitchen without expensive remodeling or extensive redecorating. The Great Furniture Cover Up by Kelly Anderson We all like to take pride in our home's appearance and create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. But all this requires time and money, so it's all too easy to "make do" with that outdated sofa and mismatching chairs. After all, your seats may look like they've seen better days, but at least they're comfortable to sit on. However, if you feel that your furniture doesn't quite fit in with the image you'd like for your home, I'll let you in on a secret. There's a cheap and simple solution - get some slipcovers! Ready made slipcovers are specially constructed to fit most standard size sofas, loveseats and armchairs, as well as wing chairs, recliners and ottomans. They are designed to be easy to fit and to take off, so you should be able to transform your furniture in just a few minutes. Once on, your sofa slipcover should stay neatly in place, being held in position with elastic or discreet fasteners, depending on the design. If you've got good quality furniture and are looking for a really snug fit, stretch slipcovers, which contain spandex, are great for a tailored look that hugs the contours of your furniture. Slipcovers are ideal for hiding unattractive, unfashionable or worn-looking upholstery and can totally transform an old couch or chair. They're certainly a cheaper alternative to splashing out on a new suite, and are good for the environment in that they prolong the life of old sofas and chairs and keep them out of landfill sites. As well as being an affordable way to give your whole room a new look, slipcovers are low maintenance too. They are machine washable, which makes them nice and easy to care for. They're particularly popular in households with pets or children, where it can be hard work to be forever scrubbing grubby marks out of upholstery! The beauty of furniture covers is that they come in a huge choice of fabrics, colors and styles. This means you can select a slipcover to coordinate with your décor and color scheme, or change your slipcovers according to the season or the occasion. It's nice to be able to give your living room a fresh new look whenever you feel like it. You might like to consider giving your dining room a makeover too. Dining chair slipcovers are inexpensive to buy, and are ideal for dressing up everyday chairs to give them an elegant new style for a special occasion, such as entertaining guests during the holidays. So, if your furniture is looking a bit tired, or doesn't fit in with your décor, why not invest in some slipcovers? Visit http://www.getslipcovers.com/ for more tips and special offers.

Make Her Feel Like a Princess
Every little girl deserves to feel like a princess in her bedroom, and it is not necessary to have the resources of a king or queen to make her dreams come true. Any bedroom can be easily transformed into a haven fit for a little princess, even when it is necessary to stick to a decorating budget. With paint, window treatments, bedding, throw pillows, and an affordable canopy, your little princess can have the beautiful bedroom she has always wanted. Begin with Paint When decorating on a budget, paint is by far one of the least expensive improvements that has the potential to make the biggest impact in a bedroom. Dark or dull colors enclose a room and darken the mood. Open up your little girl’s bedroom with a lighter color, and make it bright and cheery. Pink is a classic choice for a little girl’s bedroom, but a bedroom for a little princess does not have to be pink. Visit your local home improvement store, and browse the many color options. You will find many beautiful new shades of floral green, rich lavender, and creamy yellow. Paint a single accent wall, or bathe the entire room with a clean, crisp new look. Bedding and Accessories Buying new bedding and bedding accessories for a little girl’s bedroom is really a very affordable way to change the entire look of the room. Consider classic character bedding, or choose a solid color that can be accessorized with your little girl’s favorite dolls, stuffed animals, or princess themed items. When decorating on a budget, solid colored bedding will never go out of style, and it will grow with your little girl‘s changing preferences. Any bed will look like a million bucks when accessorized with color-coordinating throw pillows, and those on a budget will find many affordable options. When decorating your little girl’s bedroom, choose colorful throw pillows of various sizes, shapes, colors, and textures. She will love lounging on an array of comfy pillows, and they will turn an ordinary bed into an extraordinary place for rest, play, and relaxation. Every little girl would love a canopy bed, but a completely new bedroom suit is not always an option, especially when decorating on a budget. Any bed can be transformed into a canopy bed with the addition of a portable hanging canopy. A circle of long flowing netting and lace can be hung over the head of your little girl’s bed, and she will feel like a real princess when surrounded by yards of canopy netting. Window Treatments When choosing window treatments for a little girl’s bedroom, it is important to choose light-blocking blinds or shades to ensure restful sleep. The curtains or drapery should be light and airy and coordinate well with the room. Sheer panels of alternating colors are ideal for a princess theme on a budget. For example, choose pastel colored sheer panels for the other edges of the windows, and sheer white or creamy ivory for the center. Top the windows with beautiful interlocking looped waterfall valences or graceful scarf valences for impressive window treatments that will make your little girl‘s bedroom the room of her dreams. The first thing you need to do make a list of the changes and improvements you want to make. Decide the function each room in your home has, what do you need to do there, what furnishings are needed. Plan how you want it to look, keeping in mind the asthetical appeal and the space needed. What style of home decor do you like? The next and most important step is to figure out a budget and to stick to it. Your room makeovers can be done a little at a time if money is tight. If you like different styles of decor, its popular now to have different themes for each room in your home. When the kids move out to go to college or get their first apartment, fill those empty nests with African decor, Asian decor, Southwestern decor, the possibilities are endless! Bedroom makeovers include new bedding, window coverings, new paint and fresh wall decor. For the living room, a new sofa or loveseat is great, but if the budget can't accommodate that cost, a good alternative is a decorative slipcover or some decorative throws. They can also be used to cover an old coffee table or end table. Remove old, worn out carpet and replace with pre-finished plywood floors. Sometimes you might even get lucky and find a beautiful hardwood floor underneath that you could refinish. Do you know what's under your carpet? The most valuable room in your home is the kitchen. This should be the room you spend the most money on if you want to improve the value of your home. Replacing kitchen cabinets is a valuable improvement but can be quite costly. If that's out of budget, try stripping the old paint off of wood cabinets, sand them down and then choose a natural wood stain. Finish with a waterproof sealant and it looks like you have new cabinets! Add a tiled backsplash behind the sink and new linoleum on the floor if you can't afford new tile. When doing your own interior decorating, remember that sometimes less is more. Don't over clutter a room with too much decor. If you have a lot of different decor, try rotating it. It's even ok to combine different home decor styles together. Have fun finding the interior decorator in yourself! | |
